This book analyses the emergence and the development of a political debate over immigration control within Italian political elite over the last twenty-five years. On the basis of a discourse analytical approach the book challenges the taken for granted nature of contemporary immigration policies by showing how the meaning of the immigration control problem was constructed differently across time and across the political spectrum and by highlighting how different definitions of the problem space in turn influenced different legitimate policies on the issue.
 
Autrice
Natalia Magnani holds a PhD in Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is Assistant Professor of Sociology of Territory in the Department of Sociology and Social Research at the University of Trento, Italy. She has published in various international journals such as International Migration, Ethnicities and the Journal of Rural Studies.
